The beauty in my ‘Everyday’ ~ Personal

“Normal Day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart. Let me not pass you by in some quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. Let me hold you while I may, for it may not always be so. One day I shall dig my nails in the earth, or bury my face in the pillow, or stretch myself taut, or raise my hands to the sky and want, more than all the world, your return”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Mary Jean Iron

Musings of Late ~ Personal Reflections

Our home has a heart and soul, a history all of her own.
Her bare wood floors polished by time.
Grand old windows fold open to reveal portraits of the bush, a canvas that changes with every season.
In each room, soft light gently filters in, wrapping itself around our lives.
Trinkets and treasures line her walls, opening windows into our own precious memories as we gaze upon them.
We are her heart, breathing life back into her soul.

Bronica EC – First Roll Kodak TMAX 400 B&W

The images below are the first from the roll of Kodak TMAX 400 B&W film I shot with the Bronica EC. I was pleasantly surprised and utterly amazed that this camera, with an age of almost 40 years, indeed works and is in fact capable of producing surprisingly beautiful images.

I love the results. I love how film has beautifully captured the highlights and shadows in the images perfectly. I love post processing was minimal. I love the softness and I loved the process from start to finish. The whole process of loading film, composing in camera, manually setting exposure, checking …. Rechecking and checking again, packaging and sending film away by post and receiving back a tangible photo has really made me appreciate the process that film creates, how it simply slows everything down, making you work to capture that one brief moment.  I love film.

Although I was hesitant at first to shoot with this camera, I am now itching to reload and beginning again, experimenting with colour this time, and the soft muted tones only film creates.

and finally the frame I love the most …….

Newborn photography for Charters Towers and Townsville Residents

‘A new baby is like the beginning of all things – wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities’. ~ EDA J. Le Shan

Newborn photography is my passion. I love photographing teeny tiny babies, capturing a time in their lives that goes by in a heartbeat. In saying this, I thought I would take the time to go through my newborn photography session for those parents in Charters Towers and Townsville who may be interested in newborn photography but are a little uncertain as to what is involved.

I adore capturing images of tiny newborns, so I try to photograph as early as possible, preferably between 4-10 days is ideal as they are still lovely and sleepy and easy to pose. This is the ideal time to capture your baby in their ‘newborn’ state, a period in their life that really doesn’t last very long at all. My next best option is before two weeks, so please be sure to call me as early as possible so I can pencil in your due date in advanced. Although I do photograph babies later then these dates, for best results I do encourage families to have their newborn session as early as possible.

Newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. I photograph completely on-location, meaning I come to you! There is no rushing to a studio or racing through traffic and I strive to make your session feel relaxed and simple. My equipment and small “studio” are completely mobile and can be setup in any location, including any room in your home. I require very little room and will normally setup my studio in your lounge room provided it has the most light filtering in.

I primarily photograph using natural light as I believe it creates the softest pictures when photographing newborns. Although if problems do arise with insufficient natural light due to weather I also have other lighting equipment to ensure your newborn images are perfect.

I carry with me an assortment of lovely blankets, wraps and beautiful props including hand knitted hats in colours to suit both boys and girls, as well as lovely newborn hand knitted nappy covers which your baby will be place in for his/her photographs. During your session I will combine lovely newborn poses with coordinate headbands, beanies and wraps to create truly unique images for you to treasure. I am also a big believer in simplicity and will often work to create timeless simple images of your child that capture the essence of this newborn state without any props at all.

I try to have a baby led session, meaning that if your baby is awake when I arrive we will work with them and capture family photographs or other images until he/she is ready to sleep. When they are hungry we will stop for a feed because a happy baby with a full tummy will encourage deep sleep. I work around the needs of your baby and schedule around 2 hours for the newborn session although I am flexible on this as it may just take a little longer to settle some babies and that is fine with me.

I will ask that when our session begins, to wrap your baby in a light blanket and with a nappy on and my knitted nappy cover only. A tip is to try and make sure the nappy is nice and loose so that no marks appear on your babies skin. Also try to ensure your home is warm and comfortable for your baby.

I photograph newborns with their nappies and nappy covers on as I believe it prevents a lot of unnecessary accidents. However I do prefer newborns in their beautiful bare skin (don’t we all) so I will remove babies clothing as needed during our session. It is normal that I will do a load of washing after your session …. and this is to be expected from a happy and healthy newborn babe so please don’t worry if an accident happens!

I hope this post has provided a good insight into my newborn session, my style of photography and how my newborn sessions are run. If you are currently expecting a baby and are interested in getting some lovely newborn photos done once your precious newborn baby arrives, please contact me ASAP so I can pencil in your due date. I reserve some spots in my diary for newborn photography, although I cannot guarantee availabilities for last minute bookings so please book early.

Also if you have friends or loved ones who are expecting please feel free to pass on my details and refer them to this article, the memories I will capture are priceless!
